Why Shop Local?

In this day and age, there are more options than ever when making a purchase of any kind. Over the years, the appeal of larger stores with the ability to offer lower prices moved many people away from shopping locally, and local “working squares” across the country suffered because of it. The fact that Lynchburg’s tourism rates mean ample customers for local business owners means that instead of our square “dying” like many have, the dynamic for shopping has changed. No more car parts or Co-ops like the good-old days, but there are still many local entrepreneurs aiming to provide items for tourists and locals alike. It is important to realize though the culture of the square has changed, there are members of our community who take pride in their offerings and it is the right thing to do to support them in their businesses and keep our dollars in our town. They create local jobs while offering unique and creative items that are reflection of our culture. These local business are the ones who donate to school fundraisers, sports teams and little leagues, PTO events, and other local events, so there is a direct return on your money!
